›Is Obsidian really free?
Yes — the full app is free without limits, including commercial use since February 2025. You only pay if you want Obsidian's own sync service ($4–8/month) or Publish; many users sync free via iCloud or Git instead.
›Does Notion work offline?
Partially. Since August 2025 the desktop and mobile apps let you mark pages as available offline, but it's opt-in per page, databases are capped at 50 rows offline, and the web version needs a connection. Obsidian, being local-first, works fully offline by default.
›Which is better for a team?
Notion, clearly. Real-time co-editing, permissions, teamspaces and unlimited guests are native. Obsidian's shared vaults over paid Sync are file synchronization, not live collaboration.
›Can I switch between them later?
Yes, in both directions — with friction. Notion exports pages as Markdown that Obsidian reads natively; Obsidian's Markdown imports into Notion. Database properties, relations and permissions don't translate cleanly, so complex workspaces migrate imperfectly.
